The parish of St. John Chrysostom in Arnprior recently celebrated its 100th anniversary. The jubilee year was marked by many significant events culminating with a solemn Mass of thanksgiving which was celebrated on Sunday, May 13. The main celebrant and homilist for this Mass was His Excellency, the Most Reverend Luigi Ventura, Apostolic Nuncio to Canada. Archbishop Ventura spoke of the faith and dedication of the pastor, pastoral team and parishioners of St. John Chrysostom Parish and noted how the reputation of the parish for its ministry of worship, witness and outreach is well known.

On the Sunday preceding the anniversary mass, parishioners gathered on the steps of the parish church for a group photo, and for the unveiling of an anniversary banner that had been commissioned. The theme for the anniversary year as displayed on the banner was “Vocati Sumus Lapides Vivi” — “We are called to be Living Stones”. The three intertwining ribbons which evoke the communion of life and love that is the Blessed Trinity also represents the three centuries in which the parish has carried out its mission of building up the Body of Christ. The visual movement of these ribbons echo the life and activity present within the community.
