Parishes and missions officially closed PDF Print E-mail

After consulting the parishioners involved, the clergy and the Council of Priests, Bishop Richard Smith has decreed the canonical and official closure of five parishes and four missions in the diocese. The official documents include the following information:

St. Anne’s Parish, Rapides-des-Joachims, Quebec, is suppressed and will be added to the territory of Our Lady of Good Council Parish, Deep River, Ontario;

St-Louis-de-France Parish, Chiswick, Ontario, is suppressed and will be added to the territory of St-Thomas-d’Aquin Parish, Astorville, Ontario;

Notre-Dame-du-Lac Parish, Tee Lake, Quebec, is suppressed and will be added to the territory of St. Theresa’s Parish, Temiscaming, Quebec;

Our Lady of the Snows Parish, Stonecliffe, Ontario, is suppressed and will be added to the territory of Our Lady of Good Council Parish, Deep River, Ontario;

Ste-Sophie Parish, East-Aldfield, Quebec, is suppressed and will be added to the territory of St-François-d’Assise Parish, Lac-des-Loups, Quebec.



The following missions have also been suppressed and will continue to be served by their respective parishes:

St. Gregory Mission, Feronia, Ontario, is closed and the people will continue to be served by Sacred Heart Parish, Corbeil, Ontario;

St. Henri Mission, Grand D?sert, Ontario, is closed and the people will continue to be served by St. Bernadette Parish, Bonfield, Ontario;

Holy Spirit Mission, Nichabeau, Quebec, and Notre-Dame-du-Lac Mission, Desjardinsville, Quebec, are closed and the people will continue to be served by St. Alphonsus Parish, Chapeau, Quebec.



Consequent to these changes, all assets of the parishes and missions have become the property of the newly modified parishes. These changes became effective on March 19, 2007.
