ARTICLE – Questions To Start Spiritual Conversations

Evangelizing can sometimes seems difficult or complicated. How do we share our faith with others? There’s a way to do it that’s simple: just by asking questions. When we ask the right questions, we can have meaningful conversations that encourage others to think about their own beliefs. This approach offers several advantages. To start with, questions can guide everyday conversations towards matters of faith, stimulating individuals to consider their own spirituality. Secondly, they provide a non-intrusive and respectful way to address topics such as prayer, church, sacraments, and more. Through these questions, we invite others to share their thoughts and experiences, thereby creating an environment conducive to open and sincere dialogue.

Here are examples of questions that can be used:

  1. Do you go to church?
  2. Do you believe in God?
  3. Do you know that God loves you?
  4. What is your key to maintaining balance in your life?
  5. What are 2 or 3 major truths upon which you have based your life so far?
  6. What do you find most attractive about the person of Christ?
  7. Do you consider yourself a seeker of the truth?
  8. What is your spiritual background?
  9. Where are you in your spiritual pilgrimage?
  10. Have you ever read the Bible?
  11. Have your views on religion changed since you started college?  How?
  12. If Christ was who He claimed to be, how would that affect your life?
  13. In your opinion, who was/is Jesus Christ?
  14. What brings you a sense of meaning or purpose in life?
  15. Have you ever had any experiences that made you contemplate the existence of something greater than ourselves?
  16. Do you find any comfort in prayer, meditation, or any other spiritual practices?
  17. Are there any particular values or principles that guide your life?
  18. How do you navigate difficult times or find inner strength?
  19. Have you ever explored different spiritual or philosophical perspectives?
  20. Are there any spiritual or religious traditions that have piqued your curiosity?
  21. What role do you think spirituality plays in creating a sense of connectedness with others?
  22. Do you believe in the concept of something transcendent or beyond the material world?
  23. Are there any questions about life, meaning, or spirituality that you find yourself pondering?
