National Family & Life Week (NFLW), May 7-14, 2023
National Family & Life Week (NFLW), May 7-14, 2023, is an invitation from the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops to the faithful in Canada to celebrate the joy and beauty of family and life by seeking out new and creative ways to live out this call in our daily lives. The NFLW theme is Jesus’ words, “Love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another” (John 13:34). Love is at the heart of familial relationships and our families are a communion of love in Christ. We are “guardians of life” when we love one another within our families, as well as in wider society when we show kindness toward and care for the vulnerable and marginalized. (Read more…)

THE EVANGELIZATION TEAM
News from the Synod
The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) and the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) have issued the North American Final Document for the Continental Stage of the 2021-2024 Synod: For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation, and Mission. The document does offer guidance and inspiration for individuals and communities on their own journey towards a more synodal and missionary Church. Some of the key themes and ideas that could potentially inform future recommendations include:
- The importance of listening to the Scriptures and discerning the guidance of the Holy Spirit
- The need for greater participation, co-responsibility, and decision-making among all members of the Church
- The value of dialogue and encounter with others, especially those who are on the peripheries
- The call to evangelization and mission, as well as care for our common home and promotion of social justice
- The recognition of diverse voices within the Church, including young people, women, and marginalized groups

What is Love?
By Pierre-Alain Giffard, Director of Pastoral Work
Love is at the core of human nature and is an essential aspect of our existence. Love is not just a feeling or an emotion; it is a fundamental and innate vocation of every human being. To love is to will the good of the other, and this involves a choice and an act of the will. Love is about self-giving and self-sacrifice, and it often requires us to put the needs of others before our own. Despite the challenges and sacrifices that love can involve, it brings joy and fulfillment, particularly in the presence of the beloved. Ultimately, love is a reflection of God’s love for us, and it is through our love for others that we participate in His divine plan for humanity. (Read more…)
