Homily for the Feast of Saint Anne in Cormac

Dear faithful and pilgrims who have gathered here today in large numbers to honour Good Saint Anne on her feast day,

I know that many of you have come here today to ask for a special favour, for a healing, or even for a miracle. I must remind you though, that Saint Anne does not operate or do any miracle whatsoever. She simply turns to her grandson Jesus and begs him to grant a particular grace or divine favour to the person who invokes her in faith and who believes that her intercession is extremely powerful. Death of Most Reverend Marcel A. Gervais, Archbishop Emeritus of Ottawa – Wednesday, August 09 2023

Ottawa – The Most Reverend Marcel André Joseph Gervais, Archbishop Emeritus of Ottawa, passed away on 6 August 2023 at the Bruyère Hospital in Ottawa, Ontario.

Archbishop Gervais was born on September 21, 1931, in Elie, Manitoba. In 1954, he entered St. Peter’s Seminary in London, Ontario, to begin his formation for the priesthood. He was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of London on May 31, 1958, by Bishop J.C. Cody. After ordination, he continued his studies in Rome at the Pontifical Biblical Institute (1959-1960) and then at the École biblique et archéologique française de Jérusalem (1960-1961). (Read more…)

Rights of Indigenous Peoples

  1. Indigenous peoples have the right, without discrimination, to the improvement of their economic and social conditions, including, inter alia, in the areas of education, employment, vocational training and training, housing, sanitation, health and social security.
  2. States shall take effective measures and, where appropriate, special measures to ensure continuing improvement of their economic and social conditions. Particular attention shall be paid to the rights and special needs of indigenous elders, women, youth, children and persons with disabilities.

1st Thursday Holy Hours to Pray for Vocations

On September 7th,  6:30-7:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, Bancroft – “Then Jesus said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore, pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest” (Mt. 9:37-38). The Holy Hour will consist of Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Sacred Music, a reflection by Fr. Murray, a Rosary for vocations, and time for silent prayer. Come join us on Thursday, Aug 31st – 7 – 8:30 p.m. Please join us at Nelson St. Pub, 207 Nelson Street, Pembroke. Guest speakers: Veronica Ferri, Fr. Zach Romanowsky, David Guzman, all from Madonna House. Topic: “How and why to strive for a life of Purity in this current age – PART II.” This is an initiative of the Family Life and Youth Ministry Office and is geared for those age 19 – 49(ish). Gatherings will take place monthly at various local restaurants or parishes in the Pembroke area that offer private rooms for such an event. Different guest speakers will be invited each month to give a talk on a variety of different topics relating to the Catholic Faith. There will be time for questions, discussion and socializing.
