TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION

Terminologies

The Diocesan Action Circle committee would like to familiarize everyone with certain terminologies:

Chief: there are two classifications of chief:

  • Band chief: A person elected by band members to govern for a specified term. Under the specifications of the Indian Act, First Nations must have an election every two years.
  • Hereditary chief: A leader who has power passed down from one generation to the next along blood lines or other cultural protocols, similar to European royalty.

THE EVANGELIZATION TEAM

In The Shoes of the Unchurched

FROM THE CCCB

Message for Easter 2022 by Bishop Raymond Poisson, Bishop of Saint-Jérôme and of Mont-Laurier and President of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops

As the Church in Canada, we have just lived through a particularly remarkable week: in faithfulness to its mission, however imperfectly, our Church is working within itself and around itself towards reconciliation, for the building of a better world. It is doing so by following the vital path of self-examination: through an honest scrutiny of its recent history, the Church in Canada has become aware of its mistakes and, above all, of her existential need to be saved by Christ. I refer, of course, to the meetings between our sisters and brothers from the Indigenous Peoples and the Holy Father, joined in turn by representatives of the Bishops of Canada; an experience of salvation that has been in the works for a long time, and is the first fruits of a future to continue to build. MARRIAGE, FAMILY, YOUTH & YOUNG ADULTS

Steubenville Toronto Youth Conference is back on!! July 15 – 17th, Whitby, Ontario

Any youth entering grade 9-12 in September 2022 and anyone graduating grade 12 this June are welcome to participate in this conference. The venue has changed to the Canada Christian College in Whitby, and therefore accommodation is not included, as there is no residence at the College. This venue, however, is located right along the shores of beautiful Lake Ontario with plenty of green space, and has a very large conference room with regular seating. No more bleachers!

The Family Life and Youth Ministry Office of the Diocese of Pembroke will be gathering a group of youth to attend. Fees for this year are $350 per person and includes conference fee, accommodation at a nearby hotel for two nights, all meals from dinner on Friday night to Breakfast Sunday morning, bus transportation and group T-Shirt. 20 spaces for youth are available on a first come, first served basis. A minimum of 15 registered youth will be required for the Diocese to attend as group. Chaperones will be provided. To obtain forms for registration or for questions contact Yvette Bourque at 613 585-6301 or yvettebourque@pembrokediocese.com. Deadline to register is May 27th. To find out more about the conference go to www.steubenvilletoronto.com.

This year’s conference is more expensive than in the past and may be difficult for some families. You are encouraged to approach your Pastor about fundraising, or if you have friends or family close to Whitby that can accommodate you, and you can drive your own group to the Conference and back, it will be cheaper. If you are interested in organizing a group and you need some assistance, please contact Yvette for details.
