Summer Office Hours

The Diocesan Offices will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Thursday, and will close at noon every Friday until September 4th.

Clergy Appointments

Bishop Guy Desrochers, C.Ss.R., announces the following appointments, which take effect September 1, 2020, unless otherwise indicated. Ordination of Rev. Mr. Michael Coyne

With joy, the Diocese of Pembroke announces that Most Rev. Guy Desrochers, C.Ss.R., will ordain Rev. Mr. Michael Coyne to the priesthood at St. Francis Xavier Church, Renfrew, on Tuesday, September 8th, the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, at 2:00 p.m. The First Mass of Thanksgiving will take place at St. Francis Xavier Church, Renfrew, on Wednesday, September 9 at 11:00 a.m. Let us keep Michael Coyne in prayer as he prepares for ordination.

The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace – Caritas Canada launch Joint Working Committees to implement recommendations of organizational review – Tuesday, July 28, 2020

Following an organizational review of the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace – Caritas Canada to improve its collaboration with the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops, implementation of the resulting recommendations will begin this fall. The organizational review was conducted by the firm Deloitte and involved the participation of staff and members of Development and Peace, as well as staff of the CCCB and Bishops across Canada. Life and Family Suggestions for Homilies and Prayers of the Faithful during August 2020

Even during a time of physical isolation, the Sunday liturgy continues to offer nourishment for prayer and reflection during the whole week – whether we are meditating on the readings, or participating in a television broadcast of the Mass and making a spiritual Communion.  The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops continues to post homily ideas and prayers of the faithful to help link the Sunday liturgy with the national pastoral initiative for life and family.  The suggestions for homilies and prayers can be easily adapted for family prayer, as well as for personal prayer or for use with other groups or organizations. Campus Evangelization Virtual Round Table Summit

The General Secretariat has recently received information from the Evangelization and Discipleship subcommittee of the Canadian Catholic Campus Ministry (CCCM) regarding a virtual event entitled Campus Evangelization Virtual Round Table Summit, which will take place from 5 to 6 August 2020 – in English only. The event is specifically geared to those persons actively working in campus ministry or ministry with university/college students. Virtual Teen Program

Catholic publisher Pauline Books and Media (PBM) is looking for avid teen readers interested in participating in a pilot run of their new “Pauline Reviewers Program.” Participating teen volunteers have the opportunity to learn to craft a book review for a publisher as they create an official review of a teen title by PBM. Through their review, teens can lend their voice to the world of Catholic publishing, and will earn a certificate that can be used towards high school volunteer hours, resumes, etc. If you have a teen who loves reading or wants to engage in the world of writing and publishing, contact Sister Orianne Dyck ( odyck@paulinemedia.com ) for more information for further details regarding the program and registration.

“Fatima” Movie Release

A new Catholic movie, “Fatima,” will be released in theaters throughout Canada on Friday, August 14. “Fatima” tells the story of a 10-year-old shepherd and her two young cousins in Fatima, Portugal, who report seeing visions of the Virgin Mary.  Info: www.fatimathemovie.com.


PILGRIMAGES

Upcoming Pilgrimage to Our Lady of the Cape and to the Shrine of Saint Anne

The 146th annual pilgrimage to Our Lady of the Cape and to the Shrine of St. Anne de Beaupré will not happen on August 8-9, 2020.  The pilgrimage has now been rescheduled for September 12-13 or October 17-18, 2020.  Pilgrims who have already prepaid for their pilgrimage will be refunded if they cannot be present to either one of these projected dates. The projected dates will depend on the federal, provincial, territorial and public Health governments’ decisions.  Our Lady of the Cape, pray for us. Good Saint Anne, pray for us.
