Loving God and our neighbours is at the heart of evangelization and of what it means to follow Jesus. But how can we make this love tangible in our daily lives? Here are some simple yet effective ways to live in God’s love and communicate it to those around us.
- Being patient, and showing kindness even on tough days.
- Respecting other people’s time, privacy, reputation and property.
- Avoiding negative talk and gossip and being mindful of our actions.
- Celebrating each other’s successes, such as personal accomplishments or a job well done.
- Donating time and resources, such as money or food, to organizations that help those in need.
- Offering hospitality and friendship to all, regardless of race, religion, or background.
- Taking the time to get to know others and to listen to them.
- Making time for intimacy with our spouse, doing things they enjoy, and maintaining a romantic relationship.
- Speaking with kindness and refraining from bossiness.
- Taking the time to learn active listening skills, effectively communicating, and offering a helping hand are also ways to show love to those around us, whether they are family members, colleagues, or neighbours.
- Verbally expressing our affection, appreciation and gratitude.
- Smiling, making eye contact, and spending quality time together.
- Building new relationships through church or community events; volunteering, joining clubs or groups, and being approachable and present with those around us.
- Hosting social events, such as potlucks or game nights, that bring people together.
- Getting to know the poor and vulnerable personally.
- Trying to see the world through the eyes of the unfortunate and vulnerable.
- Analyzing and responding to contemporary issues from the standpoint of how they affect the poor and defenceless.
