THE WAY OF THE CROSS
(Click here for a PDF printable version)
LUKE 9:22-25
Jesus spoke to his disciples and sternly ordered them not to tell anyone: “The Son of Man must undergo great suffering, and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.”
Then he said to them all, “If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will save it. What does it profit them if they gain the whole world, but lose or forfeit themselves?”

PREPARATORY PRAYERS
Kneeling before the altar, make an Act of Contrition, and form the intention of uniting yourself to Jesus in His Passion.
ACT OF CONTRITION
My Jesus, I am heartily sorry for having offended You. I detest all my sins because they have wounded Your Sacred Heart, but most of all because they have distanced me from You, Who are all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Your grace, to sin no more and to follow You. Amen.

Jesus Speaks:
“Beloved, I was unjustly condemned to death, but I remained silent. I let them lead Me like a lamb to be slaughtered. Do you know why? Because My Love for you is endless. I accepted their judgment so that you may be set free.”
Prayer:
My Jesus, help me to accept injustices and offer them in union with Your sufferings. Let me remain silent when falsely accused, trusting in Your justice. Amen.
Our Father, and/or Hail Mary, and/or Glory be.

Jesus Speaks:
“My child, when you feel too weak to go on, lean on Me. My strength is made perfect in weakness. Never lose hope, for I am always with you.”

Jesus Speaks:
“My child, when you feel buried in darkness, know that I am near. Just as the dawn followed My burial, so too will light come after your trials. Hope in Me.”

CONCLUSION: THE HOPE OF THE RESURRECTION
The Way of the Cross does not end in the tomb but in the radiant light of Easter morning.
Lord Jesus, through Your Passion and Cross, You have redeemed the world. Teach me to follow You faithfully, bearing my cross with love, as I await the glory of Your Resurrection.
Amen.
